Rugby And Football Essays (589 words) - Ball Games, Football Codes

Rugby and Football The thick, wide bore competitor inhales intensely and snorts with each progression as he and his colleagues push forcefully against the restriction. His arms are bolted over his colleagues' shoulders, the entirety of their heads down. The two groups are pushing against one another like two moose battling about an area. He looks down to see the ball, sitting just before his feet. On the off chance that he could simply snare it with his foot and hurl it to his colleague behind him... This is the thing that each player in a scrum is thinking while they battle each other for ownership. Rugby is the genuine game of men, since you wear no cushions, and it is considerably more brutal than football; nonetheless, football necessitates that you wear cushions, in this manner being the genuine game of need to-be men. The principles of these comparable yet immeasurably various games are very intricate, so just the rudiments are important to recognize the better game. In football, the essential principle is that you should advance the ball forward by tossing it or going for it. When a player with the ball is brought down, the whole group lines up once more, and the ball is snapped to the quarterback. The short delay in the middle of each down may not appear to be huge, yet it certainly negatively affects the fervor. In rugby, in any case, the essential standard is that you can just propel the ball by running with, kicking, or passing it. With passing, however, you can just pass the ball in reverse or straightforwardly to your side, never forward. Like football, you score by running the ball into the endzone or by kicking it through the uprights. Likewise, you should contact the ball to the ground for it to check, and it is worth five focuses. When kicking, the ball can be kicked from anyplace suddenly. On the off chance that it goes through the uprights, it is worth three focuses, as in football. The gear for the two games is generally unique, with football requiring substantially more. In football, players must wear a huge arrangement of cushions, covering the vast majority of their body, and a veiled head protector. The ball is comprised of a swelled elastic bladder, encompassed by sewed cowhide, also, it seems ellipsoidal fit as a fiddle. Most players presently wear cleated or spiked shoes, yet level soles are frequently worn for counterfeit turf surfaces. Be that as it may, rugby, being the genuine game of men, utilizes no stack of protective caps. Indeed the main gear that are to some degree comparable in the two games can be found starting from the ankles. Players wear a pullover, typically long-sleeved, athletic shorts, and cleated shoes. The ball has an oval shape to it, and is blunter than a football with the goal that it might effectively be skiped and dropkicked. The sources of football follow back to antiquated Greece when they played a type of football know as harpaston, and the Romans played a comparative game, harpastum. In medieval occasions, another type of football, calcio, thrived in Italy. Most current variants of football be that as it may, started in England, where a type of the game was known in the twelfth century. Rugby is said to have begun when a kid at Rugby School in Rugby, England got and conveyed the ball during a round of football in 1823. Beforehand, the standards had just permitted the ball to be kicked. As I said previously, rugby is the genuine game of men. It is the incomparable trial of solidarity, continuance, assurance, and dexterity. While in football, the players are so presumptuous and covetous about how much cash they will make during this game, the greater part of them don't work their hardest to win, as long as they get by.

Viewing the Play The Roaring Girl through Michel De...

Paths and Rules Michel de Certeaus Walking in the City provides a clear and appropriate lens with which to view and re-view the 17th century play, The Roaring Girl. Thesis: Certeaus notion of subversive navigation within cities illuminates a heretofore unexamined dimension of The Roaring Girl, the protagonists appropriation of major London landmarks for uses completely unintended by the citys planners. The protagonists in The Roaring Girl were able to overturn key social conventions by first overturning the institutional control of space within the city. In his essay Walking in the City, Michel de Certeaus paints a unique portrait of a city life that can be applied to personal social interactions. One of Certeaus arguments is that leaders and influential people draft rules regulating social interactions and social norms. The hierarchically generated rules serve to maintain an established social order and structure; and these rules perpetuate the ideals and values of the elite and dominant culture. (94-95). To support his claims, Michel de Certeau observes New York City from the height of the Twin Towers. Certeau notes that the city had been planned well, laid out in carefully constructed zones according to a detailed and highly thought out architectural plan. He observes city below him in both topical and geographical structure with attendant features, ...the urban island ¦lifts up the skyscrapers over Wall Street, sinks down at Greenwich, then rises

Leadership Styles From The Point Of View - 1465 Words

The articles under analysis explore leadership styles from the point of view of their relation to gender (Merchant, 2012) and personality (Yahaya et al., 2011). Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research, which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that â€Å"many studies analyzing the intersection of gender and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding† (p. 24). It proves the argument that gender stereotypes play a major role in attributing particular roles for females and males on the basis of their biological sex and what is expected of them. Whereas Merchant (2012) does not present a particular argument on the topic, the†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"Male managers tend to employ influence tactics such as personal appeal, consultation, assertiveness, and inspirational appeal, female managers use consultation, inspirational appeal, and ingratiation more with other female employees and exchange tactics more with male employees,† Merchant, (2012). I happened to work under both female and male leadership, and I should admit that the difference between them is not evident – everything depends on personality, and dissimilarities in influence tactics are attributed â€Å"to situational circumstances such as individual setting† (Merchant, 2012, p. 26). Personal Leadership Style My leadership style is both Participative and Democratic, and it is influenced by the three variables – gender, personality, and age. â€Å"Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the input and recommendations of all team members,† (Goetsch, 2002). I focus on getting to the bottom of the problem by working through it. As a leader, I wouldn’t be concern with who likes me or who thinks I’m being too hard on the employees. My goal is to motivate employees and to see their potential. â€Å"Employees can be motivated by the potential to improve their job satisfaction,† Goetsch (2012). I’m a people person, and I can get along with pretty much any person and that’s how a leader should feel as well. Effect of Gender Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting

Macbeth 2 Argumentative Essay Example For Students

Macbeth 2 Argumentative Essay Question: Are there modern day parallels to Macbeth? Give examples of others who have fallen prey to ambition and greed and give examples to show how they fit the Macbeth mold. Macbeth was a very greedy and unhappy man who was very susceptible to pressure. Everyone in todays modern world fits the Macbeth mold in one sense or another. There is not a living being that has never fallen prey to peer pressure, greed or jealousy. Macbeth had always desired and dreamed of being King and ruling over the country. His wife wanted Macbeth to be King, therefore Macbeth wanted to rule even more. Lady Macbeth also craved to be the Queen of Scotland. The pressures that Lady Macbeth laid upon Macbeth were unmeasurable. Macbeth was constantly influenced by his wife. Macbeth had many dreams and wishes of ruling over Scotland. He was a very ambitious man. His desires and visions of being King seemed possible and achievable. With the influences of his wife and the foresights of the three witches, Macbeth realized that his dreams could become reality. Selfishly, not thinking of others, Macbeth committed murder to become King. He killed Duncan, the King of Scotland. Macbeth was a very greedy and thoughtless person. In a way, Macbeth could be classified as jealous. He was obviously a bit jealous of Duncan because Duncan had everything, including happiness. Duncan was the King and Macbeth was not. This could cause a lot of jealousy. Macbeth had desires and wishes but they were unattainable with Duncan around. In the end of the story everyone loses respect for Macbeth and realizes that he was the one who killed Duncan. Macbeth was killed. This seems like a high price to pay just to be King. The strange thing is that Macbeth was filled with extreme guilt and sadness. He could not even enjoy his time of rulership. A classic modern day parallel to Macbeth who fits the Macbeth mold is Tanya Harding. Tanya was a figure skater who was not number one. Kim Campbell on the other hand was a very good skater who had potential and great talents on the ice. When Kim was competing for third place and Tanya was below tenth, Tanya lost her common sense and was filled with jealousy and greed. All of her hopes and ambitions seemed to be disappearing Tanya believed Kim was all to blame. Tanya hired her bodyguard to clobber and beat Kim in the knee with a baseball bat. Kim was severely damaged and was not able to compete. Tanya could have been pushed or influenced into this act by her friends, family and even her coach. She could have felt as though her family and friends were counting on her to do well. So many people were watching while she felt as though she was failing. Perhaps Tanya felt that the only way she could make her fans proud was to win. Her only choice would be to get rid of a top competitor. Tanya is still trying to regain honour from society and all her old fans but no one will be able to forget the tragedy and the mistake that Tanya committed to achieve a medal in skating. She still struggles with the loss of friends and the loss of respect. Scar, from the Lion King also fits the Macbeth mold. Scar was very jealous of his brother Mufassa who was the King. Scar could only dream and wish of someday becoming ruler over the Pride Lands. If he ever did become King Scar knew that Mufassa and his son Simba would have to be out of the picture. Scar had many plans and tried many times to kill Simba, but it never worked. He finally came up with a plan that would kill both Mufassa and Simba. He planned that the two of them would be caught in the middle of a horrible stampede. Simba escaped safely from the stampede but Mufassa was trapped. He managed to climb up a cliff. Scar was at the top of the cliff. Mufassa reached out his paw to his brother for help. Instead of pulling his brother up, Scar drove his nails into Mufassas paw. Mufassa fell and was killed.Simba ran to his father. Scar came up behind Simba and told him that he was the cause of his fathers death. Scar encouraged Simba to flee from the Pride Lands and never return. S imba took his uncles advice and ran away, followed by three murderers hired by Scar. In the end of the story Simba returned to discover that Scar had killed his father. Scar was killed. Even though Scar became king, he only ruled for a couple of years. The death of his brother brought happiness to his life. This proves that this character was very selfish and greedy. No feelings or sensations for others would get in the way of Scar becoming King. Scar had constantly dreamed of being King and did anything to achieve his goal, including murdering his own flesh and blood. The most popular person in todays modern world that does fit the Macbeth mold is probably O.J. Simpson. O.J. has been proven guilty of the crime of murder. He has supposedly killed his wife, Nicole Brown. Why did he do it? Well, there may be many reasons. O.J. and Nicole were in the middle of a divorce. If the divorce would have been completed, O.J. would have to pay Nicole alimony. As O.J. is a very wealthy man, he probably would have had to pay a large sum of money. If this was the reason why O.J. killed his wife, O.J. can be looked upon as being very greedy and selfish. O.J. also has two children. The mother of the children usually gets custody of the kids in divorce settlements. Perhaps O.J. loved his children so much that he could not bear to loose them. O.J. killed for his own needs and desires. He may of had ambitions and goals for his children which were being taken away from him. The divorce between O.J. and Nicole was not settled. Nicole was dating another man (who was also murdered). Since the divorce was not clear, this dating could be looked upon as an affair. Perhaps O.J. was jealous of this man. Maybe, out of selfishness, greed and jealousy O.J. went to far when he decided to murder his wife. O.J. has lost a lot of money, friends and trust. Not only has he lost most of his trust with friends and family, he has also lost trust and respect from the public and his fans. Faith and trust is very important in life. O.J. fell prey to ambition, greed and jealousy, just like Macbeth. Everyone in todays modern world fits the Macbeth mold in someway or another. There is not a single person that can honestly say that they have never been jealous, greedy or filled with hopes and ambitions. It is not wrong to dream once and a while, as long as it stays in control.

Michael Crichton Essays - Environmental Skepticism, Futurologists

Michael Crichton For almost three decades, Michael Crichton has written novels that appeal to his reader`s imagination and take a firm hold of their pocketbooks. Crichton`s writing stands out as much as his 6=9 frame. He has become one of the most widely read and bought science fiction authors of the past three decades. From his first novel The Andromeda Strain, which he published while in medical school, to his most recent Airframe, Crichton has captivated his readers and left them craving more. What makes Crichton`s novels unique are their topics. Criction`s fiction novels have topics that range from little known historical events to indistinct scientific topics, such as cloning and primate communication. Crichton`s novels intertwine factual information with his own fictional ideas to produce stories that sell. Crichton`s research is very accurate and detailed. This fact can be traced to Crichton`s extensive education, both formal and informal. Born John Michael Crichton in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised in Roslyn, New York. Crichton graduated from Harvard University, were studied to become an English major, but converted to studies in anthropology. After graduating summa cum laude, Crichton taught anthropology for one year at Cambridge University in England. After his tenure at Cambridge, Crichton attended Harvard Medical School, where he earned his doctorate. Crichton also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Salk Institute in California. (Jaynes 1) Crichton`s writing experienced a dry spell in the early eighties, when he said, A Writing was very difficult for me. Instead of writing Crichton traveled the world. Being an anthropologist, Crichton explored civilizations that are hard to reach. He traveled from Malaysia to Pakistan. He also made a trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, and spent time in the South Pacific. (Jaynes 2) Crichton has had many experiences and gained enormous amounts of knowledge, which he employs in his novels, and uses to create stories that climb the best seller list quickly. Crichton also experimented with psychic phenomenon and became a professed spiritual pilgrim. Crichton admits to participating in practices such as acupuncture and Aaura-fluffing. (Jaynes 2) Crichton himself says, A Sometimes I thought, You`ve been in California too long, and you`ve gone from a perfectly O.K. doctor to a guy who lies on a couch while someone puts crystals on him and you actually think it means something, but it`s nothing but a lot of hippie-dippy-airy-fairy baloney. (qtd. in Jaynes 2) Crichton has explored the landscape of the mind and the planet, and uses what he has discovered to create stories that sell. Michael Crichton is the author of eleven thrillers under his given name. All eleven of these novels have made the best-seller list, and earned Crichton a notable reputation. Crichton`s first novel The Andromeda Strain was written as a means of income for Crichton while he was in school. When the novel was published Crichton experienced minimal fame around the Harvard campus. More importantly, however, this novel established Crichton=s reputation as a writer. The novel itself is about an alien virus that lands in the remote New Mexico desert, and the scientists that study and ultimately get rid of the virus. This novel contains subtle hints comparing it the alleged alien landings in Roswel, New Mexico and alien studies conducted in Area 51 in Nevada. Crichton puts his own creativeness into this work using the general public=s curiosity concerning alien matters, only this time the invader is a virus. Another aspect of this novel that makes it so compelling is as Richard Shickel of Harper=s Magazine states, AMr. Crichton has spared no effort in his attempt to make us believe that The Andromeda Strain could happen [emailprotected] The factual information and even the fiction aspects of this work are a product of Crichton=s exposure to the medical field at school. Crichton uses computer printouts, biological references, and fictional government documents to lend authenticity to this story. (Marowski 1) This is the first of many instances where Crichton uses his knowledge and experience to excite his readers. Another [emailprotected] that Crichton is more popular for is Jurassic Park. In an article for the Los Angeles Times Book Review, Andrew Ferguson stated that Jurassic Park=s Areal [emailprotected] is A its genuinely interesting discussion of dinosaurs, DNA research, paleontology, and the chaos [emailprotected] This work does indeed display an acute knowledge of the scientific fields mentioned above. Crichton incorporates factual information into his story of cloning actual dinosaurs. Crichton writes, A Y in 1953, two young researchers in England, James Watson and Francis Crick, deciphered the structure of [emailprotected] (Jurassic Park) This event is used to grasp the reader=s attention and

The Reconstruction of Eurpoe After World War II essays

The Reconstruction of Eurpoe After World War II essays THE RECONSTRUCTION OF EUROPE AFTER WORLD WAR II Even while World War II war still being fought, leaders of the Allied powers began thinking about how to reconstruct Europe after the war. Winston Churchill of Britain, Franklin Roosevelt of the United States, and Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union agreed first of all, that they would need to root out fascism entirely. This meant they would not only need to defeat Germany but also need to denazify Germany by punishing those who were responsible. Coming out of the Second World War which completely ruined and crippled Europe, many countries had to face the problems of material, economic and moral reconstruction. This report shows how the countries went about rebuilding a ruined Europe. On June 6th 1947 George c Marshall presented a speech of a plan the forever-changed Europe. It was a plan to rebuild the destructed Europe after World War II. ?Borne from the mind of a wise and diplomatically skilled visionary, the Marshall Plan was the phoenix on whose wings war ravaged Europe would begin its ascent from the ashes of World War II. The Plan took root in the Economic Cooperation Administration (ECA) created by Congress in April 1948. Its official title was the European Recovery Program. It is called the Marshall Plan, however, in honor of its creator - Secretary of State George C. Marshall. Constituting one of our nation's finest for eign policy moments, the Marshall Plan signaled America's unequivocal resolve to assist an economically struggling Europe, and assume a position of leadership on the post-WWII stage. Observing the financial crises which had forced Britain to pull out of Greece, the massive European capital shortages, poor crop conditions, rising inflation, and the budding seeds of communist parties in France and Italy, Secretary of State Marshall was determined not to repeat the mistakes of World War I by simply standing by as bad times turned worse. At the Harvard U...

Key Developments within the Global Airline Industry Essay

Key Developments within the Global Airline Industry - Essay Example The researcher states that the growth of the airline industry is averaged at 5 percent annually through the estimates have changed due to changing economic conditions and differences in air travel safety across continents. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the industry experienced a $ 4 billion decline in profitability in 2011. Surprisingly, analysts point that global air travel passengers will hit a mark of 3.5 billion passengers annually in2015 which is a 30 percent increase from the current figures. IATA clarifies that increase in global fuel costs will impact negatively on the profitability of many airlines since it is estimated that global airlines will experience about $ 1.6 billion fuel cost increases. Accordingly, fuel costs account for about 35 percent of airline costs currently, up from 15 percent in 2000. Numerous uncertainties such as the recent global financial crisis and global terrorism have negatively affected the profitability of the in dustry. The developments have led to shifts in t global air travel services provision as major global players have intensified competition in the new centers of production. Additionally, the emergence of new international financial hubs such as China has led to movements of major airlines from their home markets to new high growth markets. Transnational corporations like the World Trade Bank and International Monetary Fund have facilitated globalization through the elimination of barriers in trade and investment flows among the nations. There are numerous factors affect the competitiveness of the airline in the domestic market. Some factors include the level of technological innovation, the influencing factor creation, and organization of the airline. According to Porter’s diamond model, the structure of the industry, the rivalry of the firms, the factor conditions, demand in the market and supportive industries are the important internal factors that determine the success of the firm in the domestic or national market.

Pollution and Lake Erie Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Pollution and Lake Erie - Term Paper Example With increase in population a lot of things changed for this lake. This increase gave rise to pollution in the form of human waste, sawdust, agriculture chaff, oil etc. The forests around this lake were cut down in order to get wood for construction purposes. Around 1960s the whole outlook of the lake changed due to this pollution caused mainly by industrial waste and untreated sewage. Rivers that flowed into this lake were also much polluted. This problem became so serious that warnings were given to the residents against the contact with the water. All of this made life in this water impossible; hence, this lake was declared ‘dead’. Lake Erie is considered dead, as a consequence of eutrophication (Gilpin 1995). Lake Erie is one of the lakes in the world which has a very large dead zone. The area which lacks oxygen is called a dead zone. According to scientific researches done by scientists dead zone works in two distinct layers. There are two separate layers of water i n the lake; one is on the top and the other at the bottom. Temperatures in these two layers are mostly different except in the springtime where the temperature in both layers is the same. In summers, the water in the upper layer warms up and the bottom layer remains the same. This results in a significantly colder layer of water at the bottom of the lake. This difference in temperature between two layers is called thermocline. All the activities in the water takes place in the upper layer as all the sunlight and nutrients are present here. When the algae and animals present in the upper body die, they fall at the bottom and decomposition takes place. The process of decomposition uses up all the oxygen in these areas, hence, giving rise to dead zones. This problem is really bad in Lake Erie because the water here is not very deep and there is less oxygen in it so the oxygen is depleted very quickly. Scientists are making efforts to reduce this problem of oxygen depletion in Lake Erie . There are a lot of nutrients present in this lake and the sources of these nutrients are divided into two categories. These categories are called point sources and non point sources. Point sources are the sources through which the nutrients that are released into the water can be measured like wastewater treatment plants. On the other hand non point sources are the ones which cannot be measured for example agricultural runoff and the amount of fertilizers cannot be calculated accurately. It is still not possible to completely evaluate whether the dead zone is expanding or is recovering. It varies from year to year, according to the temperature. The great lakes national program office of USEPA is playing a vital role in repairing the Lake Erie. Surveys are conducted annually by these people to check the level, degree and occurrence of oxygen depletion in the lake basin. They also track the trend in which this occurs. These also check the phosphorus level in the water so that it doe s not exceed its level. Phosphorus changes water chemistry and can lead to changes in water oxygen levels that eventually impact aquatic plants and animals that feed off them (Davies & Mazurek 1998). The information gathered cannot be same for every year as weather is variable that changes every year so the level of oxygen and phosphorus varies each year. To do all this data is collected and EPA research is used. Side by side biological and geological surveys are also taken into consideration.

Designing a database for a supermarket Essay Example for Free

Designing a database for a supermarket Essay 1,1 The problem and how I discovered it- I discovered the problem when I was buying in this standard supermarket and I saw that some of the products where expired and were stale. I also noticed that some of the buyers or consumers were taking this product without knowing the consequences of them on their body. This is a picture of the supermarket. 1,2 The Business- This business is of a supermarket which is located in Alejandra del Castillo in San Fernando in the south of the Island of Gran Canaria. I was doing a survey on the supermarkets as a consumer when I discovered that some of the products were stale. I told the manager about the problem they asked me for help. 1,3 The real User- The manager is the in charge of dealing with these type of problems. Although in this case Mr.Angel, the manager is not able to find the solution to this problem. In this case I have decided to help him and to provide a better service to the customer. 1,4 The current problem and inefficient- The current main problem is that the manager or the employees arent getting to know when the food is going stale or is running out of date. Im being asked to create or to find some kind of solution to solve this major problem. There are many problems with the method that the employees are using now which is to go around checking each and every product for there date of expiry. They have been facing many problems with their method. For example: *There arent as many employees as needed for this method. *It might result a bit boring *Can produce headaches and blurry eyesight. *Different products have their expiry date stamped on a different place. This can be difficult to find. *Maybe some of the products arent visible to the employees and do not look for their expiry dates. 1,5 The manual and PC way- Manual way-This problem can be solved by making six different sections and assigning six different people to look for the expiry date. Also I would like to include that it would also make the in-charges life more easier if the products were placed in a more visible and easier accessible place so that none of the products are missed out. PC way- This method would be a lot more easier because it wouldnt include as many people as the manual way. This method consists of creating a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel. While learning I discovered a all new way of using excel. I mean that if the company creates as spreadsheet and inputs the amount of the product, the expiry date and include a photo and a brief description of the product and where it is located exactly. This would only involve one persons effort and would be a lot more efficient and would provide better services to the customers. 1,6 Objectives- *Create a Spreadsheet to solve the problem. *Create a chart showing before and after. *Create a Spreadsheet with the bar-codes and date of expiry. The date of expiry must be warned a couple of days in advance. * Use professional language. * Auto-fit values. * Dont make any errors * Check formulas TWICE * Use less staff. ANALYSE 2,1 Hardware- In my solution I will be using a LCD(Liquid Cristal Display) as an output device and a scanner or a 12,0 megapixel digital camera as an Input device, this is because I will need high resolution pictures or Photos to provide the company with the solution, i will also use a baar-code scanner to introduce the products bar-code. 2,2 Software- I am going to use Windows XP professional because its easier to use that the Windows vista and more complex than the Windows 2000 Operating System. I will be using OO(Open Office) Package so that I can provide or accomplish my solution correctly, I chose this becuse it has the same functions and options as the Microsoft Office but its free and can be downloaded easily An Anti-Virus will be required in case of any viruses are introduced into the computer Via Internet, I will choose the Kaspesky Anti-Virus because its more advanced and quicker, 2,3 Data Input- Data Type Collection Input Validation Bar-code Information Product Bar-code reader Not negative Photographs Image Internet Digital camera Not negative Graph Information Spreadsheet ToolbarTools Not negative Excel formulas Formulas User Keyboard Not negative 2,4 Data processing- 2,6 back up and security- As the Document we are doing is very important we must always remember to save it, this could save us a lot of typing because if there is a power cut documents wont get erased. We should remember to save our document every 5-10 minutes ,also we need to save it when we change or insert something manually. You should save it on your PCs desktop or in My Documents also it would be intelligent to save documents on two other or externel hard disks or send it to your own e-mail. The size of the file depends on the type, for example if it is done in excel, word or powerpoint , it would also effect the size of the document if there is facy coloured writing, outstanding writing or lots of pictures. Normally a word document of 10 -12 pages with three to four coloured pictures would weigh 294 KB (302.026 bytes), this means you would be able to save three thousand more files like this on a one gigabyte pendrive. Yes, I will set up passwords to my document incase a hacker or spammer brakes in and steals my data, this way I will be sure to have a unique solution to the problem. I can set passwords to documents by going on ToolsOptionsSecurity and set up the password. The Data Protection Act means the right to protect your own data, this is a part of legislation. We might use this because we need to consider the rights we have to protect our own typed data. IMPLEMENTATION 4,1 3 to 5 printouts with errors- -Error 1- The first error committed was that some of the pictures of the products are missing. This could lead to confusion and would seem difficult to identify the product. -Error 2- The second error was that some of the dates arent in the correct format. The Dash to separate the day from the month and year are missing. -Error 3- The last error made was that the currency wasnt in a correct format, some of the values were in euros and others were in pesetas. 4,2 Screenshots I will be creating 2 graphs, one to represent the number of products expired and the number of products close to expiry. It will look like this It will be a pie chart on the top left corner with a 3D look and the key on the left. This graph will tell the user the number of products close to expiry, this will warn the staff to put the product close to expiry in the front in order to sell it soon and it wont expire. The second graph in the spreadsheet will present the number of products expired. The bars will be in pyramid shape and with a 3D look, it will be on the left hand corner. The key will be on the right and the pyramids will be dark blue. It will be from A1 to D25.They will be dark blue. This is a new and a very effective method as it shows that lots of products are expiring and it warns the user to take a step forward in order to prevent the cheese expiring. The spreadsheet will have a main, the first one is to link to sheet two and the other one to sheet three. I have added the company logo. It will have a title in bold and underlined and an attractive backgound. I have included images to identify the product correctly. This could help the staff to find the product which is close to its expiry. I have added a button to change colour to red. This is a macro. 4,3 Test Results I have checked all spellings so that no mistakes or errors are made. Also it makes the spreadsheet look more professional and gives a good impression. It gives a high influence on reader and gives a professional feeling, I have included images of the product and i have also compared them to the original product in the supermarket so that the products look and are the same and this way if the name is typed incorrectly at least the employee can look for it and correct its name. I will be including the bar-code because it will de easier lo identify the product and also a mobile phone or a cordless bar-code reader can read it easily. This would make work a lot faster because more employees can scan the products at once. The number of products has been counted and double checked. Also there is a column showing how many articles there are and the days left for their expiry. An IF formula has been created to warn the incharge if there is a product with less than 2 days left for 4,4 Objectives I have created a spreadsheet to deal with the problem I have created a chart showing the before and after. I have included dates of expiry. EVALUATION 5,1 Objectives accomplished- à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½Use fewer employees à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½Create a graph showing the number of products expired before and after the method. à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½Create a spreadsheet à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½Create at least to graphs with examples showing products expired on the spreadsheet. à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ Use spell-check to check spellings. à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ Create a main menu to graphs on the spreadsheet. à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½Include product images à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ Include dates of expiry and days left. I did use fewer employees because this method used to deal with the problem only needs employee to type in the data and possible two others to re-check dates of expiry. I did not create a graph showing the number of products expired before and after the method used to deal with the problem but instead I created a table showing this data because it is easier to find information. I confirm that I have created a spreadsheet to deal with this problem. I have created two graphs, one showing the number of products expired and the days left for expiry and the second one showing the name of the product and the number of them expired. I have used spell-check in my solution my gathering all data and pressing F7. This function uses the dictionary on the computer and corrects any errors. My spreadsheet has a main menu linking to graphs on other sheets. I did this by the hyperlink option under the insert option. I have included product images but they have been collected from the internet and arent accurate and therefore not reliable. 5,2 Test- 1. Do you think the objective number 1 has been accomplished properly? vv 2.Is the solution correct? 3.Is the layout or format correct? 4.Do you think the objectives could be improved? Or if others could be added and which? 5. Is the idea of the images correct? 6.Would it be a good idea to highlight formulas? 7.Which of the objectives do you think are invalid? 8. Which of the methods used to accomplish objectives could be improved? 9.Do you accept that it would be a better idea to create a graph rather than a table showing the products expired? 10. Do you think that the images should be taken of the actual product and not the internet? 5,3 I could improve I think that if I took the actual photo of the product it would be more reliable as it is taken of the actual article and maybe the internet gives the incorrect picture which could lead to confusion and problems. It would also be better if I check the spelling using a dictionary rather that the computers dictionary as word feed into it might be incorrect and mean something else.

A Hosts Hospitality Essay -- Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Essays

A Host's Hospitality In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, an epic written in fourteenth century by a contemporary of Geoffrey Chaucer, we learn about a knight and his quest. Sir Gawain, sworn to seek the Green Knight as part of a deal, first finds himself in an enchanted and beautiful forest and then ushered into a beautiful castle of Bercilak, its host. Bercilak's court seems so like Arthur's that it appears to offer Gawain a familiar refuge in alien territory. The orderliness and beauty of the forest and the castle recall the civilized world of Arthur's court. Gawain is welcomed as warmly as if he has arrived at Camelot. The abundant hospitality and congeniality of the host and servants are clear in this scene, and they put Gawain at ease. First, the porter at Bercilak's castle assures Gawain that "a noble knight such as he will not want for a welcome"(SGGK l. 814). Next, the host welcomes him whole-heartedly and lays all that he owns at Gawain's disposal. He also sends a servant to see to Gawain's need s, makes sure he slips into something more comfortable, rests and eats. To...

Google Case: Ethical Principle

It is rather difficult to talk about ethics as it involves different point of view based on different moral standards one has and based on different ethical principles one uses. This Google China-cases mostly talks about the ethical dilemma faced by the company, whether it should obey the local law or put its global ethical standards as its best interest. Obeying the local law will push them to do self-censoring, which then raise many criticism internationally. Based on ‘cultural relativism’, it is said that ethics are nothing more than the reflection of a culture – all ethics are culturally determined, so that each firm should adopt the ethics of the culture in which it is operating. It has been explained before that China has an totalitarian political system contrasts with the Western culture which supports civil rights and liberties. So, based on this theory, doing self-censoring may be considered as ethical. However, this pragmatic view won’t be very suitable for justifying an action. The restriction from the Chinese government regarding some sensitive political themes may be recognized by some international people as denying the human rights. Here, based on the rights theories, human beings have fundamental rights which establish a minimum level of morally acceptable behavior. Because of the censoring, Chinese people lose their freedom of speech, especially less freedom in receiving information. However, it is part of their law and political system, which should be accepted by every company who wants to conduct business in China. Some Chinese people have accustomed with the censorship, not consider it as violating human rights, and support it for the sake of the nation. By self-censoring their website, Google is complicit with the Chinese government’s effort to restrict the freedom of speech. According to ‘Kantian ethics’, it is wrong toward treating people as means, since people should be treated as ends and never as means to the ends of others. When deciding that the benefits of operating in China outweighed the costs, Google used the ‘utilitarian approaches’. It holds that the moral worth of actions is determined by their consequences. An action will be judged as ethical and desirable if the balance of best consequences are over the bad consequences. What are the benefits and the costs should be measured carefully by Google. Google claimed that ‘Google. cn’ would provide better internet service to its customers in China while making more profit for the company. It also raised ethical awareness by making its users aware that some results were omitted, thus also put pressure on the other companies to do the same. In addition, it is better to give Chinese users access to information, than to none at all. Those practical and ethical benefits combined with the increasing profit has been considered by Google as outweighing the negative effects of censorship. The negative effects for the company might be criticism for the inconsistence with the ‘Don’t be Evil’ motto. For Chinese people, I think, there will be no significant net negative effects as the Chinese users will still get the censored search results, since the government would block the contents using the â€Å"Great Firewall†. After months criticism, Google shut down its Google. cn. It tried to regain its integrity and to protests implicitly the censorship in China. The reasons might come because it realized it couldn’t give better services to Chinese users due to many problems, it had denied the human rights, and also it gained the lower market share and profit rather than expected. It made greater harm for the company. In my opinion, China has different culture and law that should be considered before a company conduct business there. Each company should obey the rules in which it is operating. Censoring is considered as denying human rights in many parts of the world – especially USA, but in China it should be done in order to gain greater advantages for the whole nation. The problem here is because Google has basic ethical principle of ‘Don’t be Evil’ which contradict this kind of action. Moreover, it won’t influence much to Chinese users whether Google stays there or not, as it has better local search engine – Baidu. That is why, considering the condition and all the consequences, it is better for Google to leave China. Next, we can analyze this case based on Kantian perspective called ‘Universalizability’. It means that the companies have the duty to commit only those actions which could be universally applied. It can be demonstrated by the question: â€Å"What if every company agreed to self-censor in order to gain access to China? †. The answer is there will be unbeatable suppression of rights of freedom of speech and information. On the opposite question, the multinational corporations may influence the societal change and perhaps will improve the level of freedom of speech in China.
